The History: Built in 1881, The West Montrose Covered Bridge is known as the ‘The Kissing Bridge.' Early travellers would sneak a private kiss as they rode their horse and buggy through. It has stood the test of time as a historical passage overtop of the
Grand River in West Montrose–a rural community in Woolwich Township in the Regional Municipality of Waterloo. It is also on the Canadian Register of Historic Places. Today, locals and tourists cross the bridge by wheel, foot, and horse.
This collage consists of 3 different images I captured while stopping to admire for the first time in September of 2021. I wanted to create an old versus new feel by layering the images to include views of both the inside and outside of the wonderous expansion and craftsmanship of this historical gem. I then went a step further and added a stock image of the horse and buggy which is still very much a part of today's transportation mean's for the Old Order Mennonites who farm the surrounding countryside today.
